How to Choose the Right Ceramic Fiber Module for High-Temperature Furnace Linings

Industrial furnace walls, roofs, and corners have different insulation and installation requirements. When selecting a ceramic fiber module, it is necessary to consider not only whether the fiber grade can withstand the expected long-term operating temperature, but also how the modules will be arranged and secured. Evaluating these factors together helps ensure that the selected module matches the actual furnace lining position.

CCEWOOL® offers ceramic fiber modules in different fiber grades, folded structures, and anchoring configurations, with specifications that can be matched to furnace lining drawings. Customers can determine a suitable ceramic fiber insulation module solution by considering three key factors: operating temperature, structural fit, and installation system.

Match the Fiber Grade to the Actual Operating Temperature

Classification temperature identifies the temperature grade of a product, while the recommended operating temperature provides a more practical reference for application selection. These two values are not the same.

For example, CCEWOOL® 1260S and 1260HPS both have a classification temperature of 1260°C, but their recommended operating temperatures are 1050°C and 1100°C respectively. The recommended operating temperatures of the 1400 and 1430HZ grades are 1200°C and 1350°C respectively.

When selecting a ceramic fiber module, these product values should be compared with the expected long-term hot-face temperature of the lining. Local hot spots, furnace start-stop cycles, furnace atmosphere, gas velocity, and high-temperature linear shrinkage should also be considered.

If the long-term hot-face temperature exceeds the recommended range of 1260S, 1260HPS or a higher-temperature grade should be evaluated according to the actual operating conditions. In this way, temperature classification becomes a practical basis for furnace lining selection rather than simply a specification on a purchase order.

Areas exposed to direct burner flame or severe gas erosion may also require burner blocks, refractory castables, or other suitable protective structures. CCEWOOL® provides multiple fiber grades to support temperature matching, while the final product configuration should be determined according to the thermal load and lining structure of each specific area.

Match the Module Structure and Size to the Furnace Lining Geometry

Conventional folded modules are manufactured by folding and pre-compressing ceramic fiber blanket into blocks. After installation, the retained compression helps adjacent modules remain in contact. To make effective use of this feature, module dimensions, fiber orientation, installation direction, and joint treatment should be coordinated.

CCEWOOL® offers several module structures for different furnace geometries.

S-Fold modules use a continuous folded structure and are suitable for large, regular furnace walls and roofs.

U-Fold modules use a U-shaped folding arrangement and can be configured according to joint and installation requirements.

L-Shaped modules combine fiber orientation with installation direction to accommodate furnace edges, corners, and transition areas.

Stack Modules use a layered structure and require proper coordination of fiber-layer orientation, hot-face direction, and fixing method.

For openings, furnace door edges, special corners, and other irregular areas, matching module dimensions to drawings in advance can reduce extensive on-site cutting and patching. CCEWOOL® can adjust module length, width, thickness, and structural form according to furnace lining drawings, allowing custom ceramic fiber modules to correspond more closely with actual installation interfaces and making module arrangement and edge finishing easier to plan.

Match the Anchoring System to the Furnace Shell and Installation Conditions

The anchoring system connects the ceramic fiber module to the furnace shell or supporting steel structure. The fixing position, connection method, and distance between the metallic components and the hot face all affect installation positioning, structural loading, and anchor operating temperature. These factors should therefore be confirmed together with the module specification.

CCEWOOL® provides both center-fixing and side-fixing configurations, together with connection methods such as pre-welded studs, welded anchoring systems, and suitable self-tapping systems.

Center fixing and side fixing describe the position of the anchor within the module, while pre-welded studs, welded anchors, and self-tapping systems describe the connection method. These two design dimensions can be combined according to the furnace structure.

For large, regular lining areas, center-fixed modules can be arranged systematically across the furnace wall or roof. Side-fixed systems can be evaluated where installation space is limited. When self-tapping systems are used for furnace maintenance or retrofit projects, the substrate material, connection load, and temperature conditions should also be confirmed.

Furnace roofs are suspended installation areas, so the load-bearing capacity of anchors, connectors, and supporting steelwork must be considered carefully. Module compression direction, joint treatment, and edge finishing should also be coordinated with the anchoring design.

Providing furnace lining drawings, shell information, opening dimensions, and maintenance requirements allows CCEWOOL® to match the module structure and anchoring configuration as one complete furnace insulation module system.

From fiber grade and module geometry to anchoring configuration, proper selection means matching all three factors to the same furnace lining position.

As a professional ceramic fiber module supplier, CCEWOOL® supports different temperature grades, drawing-based customization, and anchoring configurations, helping customers translate operating conditions and installation requirements into a practical and clearly defined ceramic fiber module solution.
